Construction season means tighter lanes, sudden slowdowns and increased risk. Professional truck drivers can protect themselves by slowing down, avoiding distractions, and maintaining safe following distances every mile through a work zone.

Safe Driving Practices

• Slow down. Reduce speed before entering the work zone and follow posted speed limits.
• Increase following distance. Maintain extra space between your truck and other vehicles. Expect sudden braking and merging traffic.
• Stay focused. Do not use handheld devices. Keep attention on traffic and workers.
• Watch for workers and equipment. Use extra caution during night operations when visibility is low. Expect equipment near travel lanes.
• Be mindful of lane position. Stay centered in narrow lanes. Avoid sudden lane changes. Signal early and check mirrors often.
