CPC Regional Manager Dean Cretsinger wrote the tribute below.
Carroll Dewayne Phea started at CPC in 2014 and was assigned to drive for a large tire company. He spent years there and quickly earned a reputation as one of the best. When the relationship ended, Carroll remained with the customer and was no longer employed by CPC.
In 2021, a new client needed a special type of driver: “travel drivers” willing to go where needed and do whatever is necessary to keep freight moving. Carroll, known by many simply as “Dog,” was all in. In true Dog fashion, after one phone call he was on a plane to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, within a day.
He and another driver were the foundation of a group that later became known as the Texas Rangers. Over time, the team grew to six drivers traveling wherever the customer required support. Along the way, Dog built friendships across North America. He developed especially close relationships in Pennsylvania, where he recently made one final trip.
Beyond being an outstanding driver with a spotless safety record, Dog was dependable, hardworking and always willing to answer the call when help was needed. More importantly, he has been a great friend to me and many others throughout the years.
Moving into semi-retirement, Dog is starting a new chapter. He purchased a tractor and trailer to run local freight with his son throughout North and East Texas.
Dog, thank you for everything you’ve done for CPC and the people around you. Enjoy this next adventure. You will be missed.
