For Conroy Drummond, a CPC Logistics Canada driver assigned to Canadian Tire in Brampton, Ontario, January 29 was shaping up to be a normal workday. Then he got a call asking if he could drive to Pickering, Ontario, to support a driver from another staffing agency whose truck had broken down in an express lane on Highway 401.
“Helping a fellow driver is always the right thing to do,” Conroy said. “As an experienced driver with more than 30 years behind the wheel, CPC and Canadian Tire were counting on me to lend a hand.”

When Conroy got to the scene, the driver was on the other side of the highway, so Conroy had to travel further down the road to exit and turn around. In the short period of time between Conroy locating the driver and getting to him, another vehicle had run into the back of the driver’s trailer, causing significant damage.
“It all happened in the blink of an eye,” Conroy said. “The other driver was not injured but was pretty shaken up.”
Conroy remained with the driver while waiting for additional assistance from emergency personnel and a tow truck, which eventually got the tractor and trailer off the highway. Throughout the incident, Conroy remained in contact with managers and supervisors from CPC and Canadian Tire, keeping everyone informed and enabling timely decision-making.
Conroy helped Canadian Tire avoid costly work that could have posed operational and safety risks by volunteering to transport the damaged trailer back to the warehouse in Brampton. He secured the load, and with the help of two escort vehicles, he and the trailer arrived safely at their destination.
“Conroy went above and beyond in every aspect,” said Mike Iasparro, National Transportation Safety and Compliance Manager for Canadian Tire. “Conroy’s professionalism, calm approach and commitment to safety reflect the highest standards of our organization. We cannot thank him enough for his dedication and outstanding support during this incident.”
Conroy consistently demonstrates an exceptional commitment to safety and service. Since he started working with CPC in January 2017, he has been honored as a CPC Driver of the Month three times (July 2017, April 2018 and November 2019) and was named a CPC Driver of the Year in 2019.
“Regardless of the situation presented to him, Conroy has been up for the challenge and tackles the solution with a smile,” said Lynda O’Grady, CPC Canada Lead Operations Manager. “He seems to thrive on going the extra mile for CPC’s clients and team members, not just out of duty but pride—pride in how we operate and are seen by others.”
“I know I can count on Conroy when another driver needs help,” said Rajvinder Bhatti, CPC Canada Operations Manager. “He is punctual, professional, polite and patient and can always be relied on for a job well done.”
