Personnel Assistant Vienna Childers and Workers Compensation Claims Assistant Jacinda Hayes transformed the holiday tree in CPC’s Chesterfield, Missouri, office into a giving tree this August to raise money for Pure Hope Foundation.
“After Christmas of last year, we decided to leave the tree up because it makes us feel better,” Childers said. “We thought it would be fun to decorate for each month, gearing around a season like Halloween or Thanksgiving.”
While the tree and its seasonal decorations have captured the attention of many CPC team members, Childers and Hayes were forced to get more creative when August rolled around.
“August is an odd month,” Childers said. “There’s not a whole lot going on. People always talk about a money tree. Who wouldn’t want to have one of those? I thought maybe we could just do a money tree and hang money on it.”
While brainstorming with her husband and son, they came up with the idea to raise money for an organization and decorate the tree as people made donations.
“We bought fake money so donors could decorate the tree with it when they made a contribution,” Childers said.
This giving tree supports the Pure Hope Foundation, an organization that fights human trafficking, restores survivors and empowers advocates.
“Whenever I hear of anything to do with Pure Hope or its co-founder Kathrine Lee, my ears perk up,” Childers said. “She has really impacted my life and these women’s lives. She helps to restore women who are victims of trafficking by empowering them to live a full life after their rescue. I feel like it is a worthy cause.”
With the giving tree as inspiration, CPC Logistics is committing to become a sponsor of Truckers Against Trafficking, an organization that is dedicated to “raising up a mobile army of transportation professionals to assist law enforcement in the recognition and reporting of human trafficking, in order to aid in the recovery of victims and the arrest of their perpetrators.”
This August, Childers and Hayes have raised more than $400 for Pure Hope. Next month, they plan to decorate the giving tree with trucks to celebrate Labor Day.
