After 15 years working her way up from driver to business manager at UPS, Shawne Koch decided it was time for a change. She wanted a position that would allow her to spend more quality time with her growing family.
Shawne eventually discovered an opening at CPC Logistics for an operations manager in Davenport, Iowa. She had never heard of CPC, but she chose to apply after reading several positive online reviews. A few days before her interview, she asked her dad—who was a truck driver—if he knew anything about CPC.
“I was shocked to find out that my dad, Harlan Koch, had been a truck driver for CPC Logistics for almost 25 years before he retired,” Shawne said. “I always thought he worked for John Deere since that was the CPC customer he was assigned to. I knew my dad wouldn’t have stayed at a company that didn’t treat him well. I felt confident I was looking for a job in the right place.”
Shawne began her role as an operations manager for John Deere Shared Services and a large consumer packaged goods company in October 2022.
“CPC was overflowing with support from the minute I started,” Shawne said. “You never feel like you’re on an island left to figure things out on your own. There are so many people like Regional Manager Kevin Adams who have helped me find the answers to my questions and get off on the right foot.”
Some of the drivers Shawne manages also worked with her dad. They called him “Kookie.”
“The drivers like to joke with me about some of the things my dad used to do while he was at CPC,” Shawne said. “They remember when Kookie dyed his hair to support me during my high school basketball games and the big cowboy hat he sometimes wore.”
While she was growing up, Shawne never believed that one day she would work at the same company her dad did for more than two decades.
“I didn’t think I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps by working in transportation and logistics,” Shawne said. “Now, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. People underestimate the critical role truck drivers play by keeping the products we want and need moving. It’s a privilege to get to be a part of that here at CPC.”
In addition to the increased flexibility her role offers, Shawne is enjoying building relationships with drivers and helping CPC’s customers find solutions to overcome challenges.
“CPC is truly a people-first company,” Shawne said. “A lot of organizations will say that they are when they really aren’t. The CPC way is to do the right thing and treat everyone with respect. It’s what I like most about working here.”
