Angel and Stela Hristov learned at a young age that taking risks can lead to great rewards.
The Hristovs, born and raised in Bulgaria, became close friends after meeting at age 19 while studying at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar.” After dating for six months, Angel moved to the United States to pursue career opportunities. Stela decided to stay behind in Bulgaria, so the pair was separated by more than 5,000 miles—about twice the width of the U.S.
“I did not know any English; it just was not time for me to go,” Stela said.
After six months in the U.S. without Stela, Angel realized that he needed her by his side. Stela took a leap of faith to build a life with Angel in a new country.
“The move was obviously a huge risk for me, and I had to adapt quickly,” Stela said. “It was not easy.”
Pursuing his passion for technology, Angel joined CPC Logistics in 2021 as a desktop support technician. Stela worked as a director of food and beverage with a rigorous schedule that often kept her away from her children and husband.
“I was busy all of the time,” Stela said. “My phone would ring at all times of the day, and it was hard to be present with my family.”
Attending CPC Logistics’ 50th anniversary celebration with Angel in August 2023 motivated Stela to consider a career change after 20 years working in the hospitality industry.
“I noticed that the company was celebrating drivers who had been there for over 20 years,” Stela said. “You could just tell they enjoyed working for CPC so much, and it inspired me to look into CPC for a job.”
She joined the company in September 2023 as an administrator in the Workers’ Compensation Department. Stela has enjoyed CPC’s flexible, collaborative environment, and her positive attitude and enthusiasm has already made an impact in the office.
“The company takes care of you,” Stela said. “It is a two-way street at CPC.”
Angel and Stela now commute and work together at CPC’s headquarters in St. Louis.
“Working together is easy for us because we grew up together,” Angel said. “We know when to give each other space and how to manage the relationship.”
Now the parents of three children and a Pomeranian puppy, Angel and Stela have created a life they are immensely proud of, and they aspire to achieve even more for their family. Angel will graduate this spring with a degree in cybersecurity from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
“I credit espresso and our teamwork,” Stela said. “We understand what each other needs. Even if the rest of our family is in Bulgaria, home is everywhere that you feel comfortable.”
The Hristovs hope to continue growing personally and professionally at CPC Logistics.
“I think it works because ultimately we are life partners,” Angel said. “We have grown up together and are best friends. When you enjoy what you do with your best friend, it does not feel like work.”
